The request, as a client would send it

We're a small Berlin startup making a quiet bedroom air purifier for the EU market. The fan and electronics run in a cardboard mock-up; we need a real enclosure for 500 units. - A true HEPA H13 cartridge, 200 x 200 x 40 mm, that users replace every 6 to 12 months from the front, without tools. - A 120 x 120 x 25 mm DC fan (currently the Sunon EEC0251B3). - A 70 x 50 mm driver board with the 230 V to 12 V supply, and a capacitive touch panel on top (its board is 90 x 25 mm). Air comes in through the front, passes the filter and leaves through the top grille. Children sleep in these rooms, so fingers must not be able to reach the fan through the grille. For size, IKEA's UPPÅTVIND is the footprint people are used to, but it uses an EPA filter; ours needs a real HEPA cartridge and will be deeper. Please don't make it look like theirs. Our sketch is attached. We'll go for CE marking later, so please keep the IEC 60335 rules in mind.

What we considered

No.ConsiderationHow it is checked
01Filter out the front, no tools

The cartridge slides out toward the user through a front door with room to grip it.

Clear zone in the removal direction; the cartridge fits its bay with clearance.
02A grille fingers can't get through

Top grille openings sized so a 12 mm test finger can't reach the fan blades.

Grille opening size and depth to the blade tips.
03A fan mount that doesn't hum

Bosses sized for rubber isolation bushes between the fan and the housing.

Boss positions against the fan's hole pattern; wall thickness around them.
04EU rules on the brief card

The region gate adds IEC 60335 items to the brief card so they are reviewed, not assumed.

Listed on the brief card with their source.

The question we would ask you

Magnetic front door or a latch?

Magnets need pockets and change the door's wall thickness; a latch needs a flex arm that must survive years of filter changes.

What we do not claim
